After Birth by Elisa Albert is one of my favorite books that I’ve read in the last few years, and is typically the first thing I suggest when people ask me for recommendations. I was drawn to the subject and I loved her previous novel, but what sealed the deal for me was this line from a one-star review on Goodreads: “If you find the idea of an entire novel featuring a woman agonizing over the subject of pregnancy and childbirth while utilizing language consisting largely of four letter words appealing, then by all means pick up a copy of AFTER BIRTH by Elisa Albert.” Yep, I do find that idea appealing, and it did not disappoint. So far, everyone I’ve passed it on to has loved it like I did, but if you don’t like it, well, don’t say you weren’t warned!
