When I started reading Harry Potter to the kids this summer I knew remarkably little about what was in store. (Kind of surprising since there is a lot of Harry Potter in the tap water.) I did know one big thing that was going to happen, and I knew it happened in book six. We finished that book this week, and even though I’d known about that one big thing, it still came as a shock, because it really was a big one. After we were done, I decided to come clean to the kids, and what followed just may be the best conversation I’ve ever had.
Me: Guys, I have to confess something. I knew that was going to happen. I was working at a bookstore when this one came out, and someone told me way back then but I didn’t want to spoil it for you.
Lucy: I knew too! I didn’t know which book it would happen in, but someone at school told me that a while ago but I didn’t want to spoil it for you.
Dash: I knew! A first grader watched the movie of Half Blood Prince and told me everything that happened. I didn’t want to spoil it for you.
We didn’t spoil it! Our little Christmas miracle.
